At about 7:10am the Penn Yan Fire Department was dispatched to 110 Johnson Ave in the village of Penn Yan for a working structure fire. Firefighters quickly worked at setting up a water supply and requested a full response from the Dresden, Benton and Bellona fire departments. By 7:20 there was a second request for more manpower after the fire extended into a second residence. A chaotic scene made use of the Yates County 911 dispatcher acting as instructor to assist in laying out the water supply lines and portable tanks. West Lake Rd. fire department was called into the Dresden fire station for standby. NYSEG and Penn Yan municipal were requested to the scene. All tankers from Branchport were requested at 7:30. The Himrod fire department was called to the Penn Yan fire station for standby. At 8:05am Penn Yan fire chief 902 stated that house number one was knocked down and that the second house was under control. The Yates County fire investigation team was requested to the scene.
