Father shoots son in Junius hunting accident

Seneca County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a hunting incident that occurred on Dec 21 2011, in the Town of Junius that sent a Waterloo man to Strong Memorial Hospital with a gun shot wound to the neck. Deputies report that Jarrod A. Ticconi, age 26 of Waterloo, NY was raccoon hunting with his father Joseph J.Ticconi, age 53 of Seneca Falls and his brother Joseph J. Ticconi II, age 31 of Savannah NY, in a wooded area just west of Bedell Rd, in the Town of Junius at about 1017 PM when the incident occurred. The three men report that after treeing a raccoon the elder Ticconi attempted to harvest the animal when the gun had a miss fire. The elder Ticconi had reloaded the weapon, a 22 rifle and was raising it to take a second attempt at the animal when the gun discharged and the round stuck Jarrod Ticconi in the neck. Ticconi was treated at the scene by North Seneca Ambulance and flown by Mercy Flight to Strong for treatment. He is listed in guarded condition at this time. Junius Fire Department assisted at the scene with thelanding zone. The NYS DEC is assisting the Sheriff’s Office with the on going investigation.
