Seneca Sheriff Warns of Phone Scam – FingerLakes1.com Archive

Seneca County Sheriff’s Office would like to warn the public about a phone scam that is once again being conducted in Seneca County. Phone calls are being received by Seneca County residents asking them to send money via Western Union to a family member in some form of distress. The callers have even had correct names of a family member. The caller asks the intended victim send an unspecified amount of money to Lima Peru to get the distressed family member back home due to an accident or other hardship issue. The phone scam is targeting older adults which might think the call is legitimate. Sheriff Stenberg reminds everyone to be cautious of these phone calls and double check with other family members about the loved one mentioned by the caller before sending any money.
