Smith Center for Arts names new director

The Smith Center for the Arts is very pleased to announce the appointment of Kelly Bradley as Executive Director. The Smith Center Board of Directors unanimously approved her appointment at its November meeting.Bradley had been serving as interim executive director since this summer. She has been employed at the Smith Opera House since 2002 and has previously been administrative coordinator and director of operations.“Kelly’s experience in Smith operations and her ideas for improving our program offerings combine to make her the right person at the right time for our leadership position,” said Sandy Bissell, president of the Smith board. Two long-time volunteers at the Smith, Pete and Tess Petrucci of Geneva, are very excited about the appointment of Bradley. “She is the greatest person for the job,” said Tess Petrucci. “Kelly is the Smith Opera House.” Pete Petrucci noted that when Bradley first came to the Smith, he told her that “you can see a light shining already. You will lead us to something Geneva expects to have … a theater with great shows and entertainment. She makes things so easy for you,” he added. With the Smith due to receive a grant of $750,000 from the state that will be used for improvements, including air conditioning to allow summer programs, it’s “exciting to be a part of that project,” Bradley said. “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”“We’re at the point right now where we have a programming opportunity that we have not had before,” she added. “The Smith is fortunate to be able to collaborate with many wonderful groups, such asHWS, the City of Geneva, the Latino Festival, Ontario County ARC, Habitat for Humanity, YMCA, Safe Harbors of the Finger Lakes, Women’s Veterans Health Care, Eastman School of Music, Geneva Reads, Musselman Triathlon, The Fisher Center, Geneva Theatre Guild and the Nancy Curvin Players, among others.”“We want to be viewed as your theater – the community’s theater,” she said.Bradley, a Geneva resident, said she loves Geneva and is very appreciative of local support, but at the same time she wants to work on making the Smith a venue for entertainment for the whole region. Bradley is active in the community and is a member of the Geneva Rotary Club, Friends of the Geneva Public Library, the Finger Lakes Health Foundation Board, Lake to Lake Professional Women, Zonta and the Geneva Area Chamber of Commerce Tourism Council.
