The Newark Police Department sadly reports that at approximately 11:44 AM on Friday, October 21, 2011 the body of Donald C. Miller was recovered from the NYS Barge Canal approximately 2/10ths of a mile West of his residence. Mr. Miller was located on the North shore of the Canal by NPD Captain Mark Thoms and Members of the Newark Volunteer Fire Department while conducting a water search by boat. The body was removed to Newark Wayne Community Hospital at the direction of Wayne County Coroner, Dr. David Hannan. The cause of death is pending investigation. No foul play is suspect at this time.Those that knew Mr. Miller remembered him as a kind man who never recovered from his service in the Viet Nam Conflict. He spent his years studying the Bible and doing kind deeds for those around him.
