South Seneca high school senior and resident poetess, Jolene Paonessa will be conducting a book signing at the South Seneca high school open house on Thursday, October 13 from 6:30-7:30 pm. Jolene published her first book of poetry in time to celebrate National Poetry Month earlier this year. A Path of My Own by Jolene Paonessa is a heartfelt book of verse written in a mature voice. The talented writer will have copies of her book ($17.00) available for purchase and an autograph in the school atrium. Refreshments will be served. Jolene states that her book is a collection of poems “…made up of experiences. We all have them, some just appear different to other people.” She recently shared how her love for poetry began in middle school but it wasn’t until she was in high school that she really began to read and write poetry. Jolene’s recent meeting with sixth grade ELA classes included Jolene reading from her own book, a question and answer session and read-alouds from various poets. All of the students enjoyed working with the high school senior – one students actually mentioned how “it is so cool to meet a real poet”. Jolene has had a few book signings at local libraries.
