On Wednesday, August 31, 2011 the Romulus Central School District was served with a Summons and Complaint initiating litigation in federal court. The Complaint was filed by Kristine Somerville alleging discrimination based on race and gender as a result of her not being appointed by the Board of Education to serve as Superintendent of Schools in 2008.The school district will be submitting an Answer denying the Complaint and will be vigorously contesting the allegations. The Board of Education believes that, with the assistance of the Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES, a fair and well documented screening and selection process was undertaken with all candidates being treated equally in such process.Since the matter is now in litigation, no further comments about the substance of the lawsuit will be forthcoming from the school district.
