If there’s now village, who needs signs?

Thieves have stolen two of the purple-and-gold welcome signs to the village, village trustees were toldMonday night.Purple and gold are the colors of the women’s suffragemovement, and the village is the birthplace ofthe women’s rights movement. With village governmentset to dissolve Dec. 31, officials speculate the signswere taken for souvenirs or mementos of the village.In response, the board agreed to have the remainingsix or so signs removed and placed in storage. A sign honoring the 1992 state champion Mynderse Academy boys basketball team also was stolen.Police Chief Frederick Capozzi said he’s talked with Town Supervisor Peter Same and received hisendorsement to have the remaining signs removed.Trustees said they likely will replace the Mynderse basketball sign.
