Canandaigua, N.Y. — An after-hours melee in the parking lot of a downtown nightclub led a bouncer to use pepper spray on several participants before police arrived and dispersed the crowd. City police say they responded to a report of fighting outside the Freedom Station nightclub on Pleasant Street at about 2:15 Sunday morning. “People were fighting and throwing rocks and beer bottles at one another,” according to the police report. Police said a club security officer used pepper spray on several people in an attempt to break up the fight. Security also detained Leonel Melendez-Rodriguez after he was allegedly observed throwing rocks and bottles and damaging a window and a vehicle. Melendez-Rodriguez was charged with criminal mischief and reckless endangerment and sent to Ontario County Jail on $1,000 bail. There were no reports of injuries.
