Doug Brown wins his 4th SFCC Club Championship

On a rainy Labor Day at Seneca Falls Country Club, Doug Brown of Waterloo defeated Steve Hyde on the 35th hole of their championship match to capture his fourth career club championship title.37 members of Seneca Falls Country Club attempted to qualify for the tournament on Saturday, August 20th. Of those, 14 qualified for the match-play event along with the 2011 SFCC Stroke Play Champion and the defending 2010 Club Champion to form the field of 16.The tournament is conducted annually on Labor Day weekend with the first two 18 hold matches on Saturday, the semi-finals on Sunday, and a 36-hole final match on Labor Day.About 40 spectators braved the rain to watch 6-time club champion Steve Hyde battle 3 time club champ Brown in the 36-hole final. While rain was steady, the course was in good condition for the majority of the match.In a back and forth first 18, Steve Hyde birdied the 18th hole to take a 1 UP lead heading into the second 18 holes of the day.Brown came out on fire making birdie on 1 & 2, and winning the 3rd and 4th holes with pars to take a 3 UP lead. It was a lead he would lose, however, and Brown was able to even the match on the 15th hole, the 33rd hole of the day, with another birdie.Brown then played an impressive 4 iron shot from about 205 yards our on the right side of the tough 16th hole that left him a 2 putt for par which was good enough to take a 1 UP lead.On the ensuing par 3 17th hole, both players came up short, and after playing short pitch shots to the back right pin, were left with 10 foot par putts.
