Moon Viewing Party at Sonnenberg on 9/9

On Friday, September 9th from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM, Sonnenberg Gardens & Mansion State Historic Park in Canandaigua will present a Moon Viewing Party, a traditional Japanese autumn celebration, in conjunction with the opening of Yuuga: Contemporary Botanical Watercolors of Japan in the Mansion. The title Yuuga, which translates as elegant, graceful, and refined, aptly describes the 35 paintings by 29 artists. This exhibit represents a selection of the best contemporary botanical art that has been produced in Japan in the last 40 years. From September 9 – October 18, Sonnenberg will host the traveling exhibit courtesy of the Hunt Institute of Botanical Documentation at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The cost to attend the Moon Viewing Party and exhibit opening is $9 per person or $7 per Sonnenberg member. After the special opening event on September 9, the exhibit will be included with general admission to Sonnenberg. This event is a fundraiser for Sonnenberg’s Japanese Garden Renovation Project. Only 250 public gardens in the United States include a Japanese Garden and just 100 of those also have a Tea House as Sonnenberg does. Proceeds raised for the project will be used to replace the roof of the Tea House and help restore garden structures and landscaping to the original 1906 design. Guests attending the September 9th event will have the opportunity to view the interior of the Japanese Tea House and stroll through the Japanese Garden, which will contain special lighting for the evening.Sonnenberg Gardens & Mansion State Historic Park is located at 151 Charlotte Street in Canandaigua.
