The Second Annual Dundee Scottish Festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 10 at Black Rock Speedway in Dundee. The Scottish Festival brings the sounds, sights and flavors of Scotland to Dundee, N.Y., where the rolling hills and countryside mirror the Scottish terrain.The day gets a festive start with a pancake breakfast from 7:30 to 9 a.m., followed by a 9:30 a.m. Kirkin’ O’ Tartans Ceremony at the Presbyterian Church on Main Street. The whole town will be engulfed in Scottish pride at 10 a.m. when the parade featuring at least seven pipebands, clans and other local groups steps off from the Dundee School. Each of the pipe bands will stop at Dundee’s main four corners to perform.The parade leads directly to the festival, where you’ll find:Song and DanceThree stages of entertainment, all under cover, will delight visitors all day. Entertainment features McLeon Fiddlers, teen musicians from Ontario, Canada; Penny Whiskey band from Western New York; the Highland Dancers of Bucks County Pa. (also National competitors) Celtic dancers and more. Pipe BandsMake sure you arrive in town in time to see the 10 a.m. parade. At 2 p.m. the bands will join for a combined performance at the festival. It’s sure to be a highlight of the day when dozens of bagpipers and drummers put on a show. Fun and GamesThe Dundee Scottish Festival is your chance to see genuine amateur Highland Games with national competitors, sheepherding and weaving demonstrations, children’s games like Tug-of-War, Loch Leap, Running through the Rye and more. Food and MoreOther activities include demonstrations by the Scottish Equestrian Drill Team; information from clans, who are also invited to march in the parade; vendors offering a variety of foods — traditional festival items as well as Scottish foods like haggis, beef pies, sausage rolls and more; wine and beer tasting; and much more. Admission at the gate is $10 for ages 8 to 80. All others are admitted for free. Dundee is located on State Route 14A between Watkins Glen and Penn Yan, not far from Seneca Lake’s west side.
