HECTOR, NY (Monday, Aug. 22) Red Newt Cellars Winery & Bistro will host a party to celebrate the release of the 2009 Tierce Riesling on Saturday, Aug. 27. The Tierce Release Party will be from 7 to 9 p.m. at Red Newt, 3675 Tichenor Road, Hector, Schuyler County, The 2009 Tierce Riesling is the newest vintage of wines created by the winemakers of Red Newt, Fox Run Vineyards and Anthony Road Wine Co. Tierce brothers, David Whiting of Red Newt, Peter Bell of Fox Run and Johannes Reinhardt of Anthony Road began their collaboration in 2005, combining their winemaking talents and grapes from each winery’s vineyards. Previous Tierce wines have won praise and high ratings. The 2008 Tierce Riesling received a Best of Class award for the Best Dry Riesling and a Double Gold Medal at last week¹s New York Wine & Food Classic in Watkins Glen.The three winemakers plan to attend the Tierce Release Party. The event will include three separate tastings, each accompanied by food pairings. Here are the tasting schedule and menu selections. 7 p.m.: The 2010 Rieslings from Anthony Road, Fox Run and Red Newt will bepresented, along with fruit, cheese and crackers.7:20 p.m.: A vertical tasting of Tierce Rieslings from 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2009 will be held. The wines will be paired with foods that include warm stuffed artichoke hearts with house-smoked salmon and Brazilian pork skewers with fresh peaches.8:20 p.m.: The 2007 Tierce Red will be served, along with the wines that were used to make it the 2007 Fox Run Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2007 Red Newt Glacier Ridge Vineyards Merlot and the 2007 Anthony Road Cabernet Franc-Lemberger. These wines will be paired with grass-fed Moroccan tagine meatballs, herb-rubbed flank steak roulade and chocolate chili crostini with pulled free-range ancho chicken.Tickets for the event cost $25, according to the Red Newt website.
