Use it as a build-up to Corning’s Wineglass Marathon, achieve a personal goal of completing your first or fiftieth half, or volunteer in making it a wonderful day on the roads and trail. The Catharine Valley Half, like all races, takes a community to succeed. It’s reliant on the generous offer to make use of the Watkins Glen High School and athletic complex, the New York State Parks for use of the Catharine Valley Trail and personnel for support, the Friends of the Catharine Valley Trail for the creation and maintenance of the trail itself, the Watkins and Montour Police and Fire departments for safety, support, and supervision, and so many individuals working registration through the finish. The event was developed and staged by the Finger Lakes Running and Triathlon Company, the area’s premiere running and triathlon specialty shop located in Ithaca, NY and sponsored by several community organizations including the Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyard. The event has grown considerably with 115 entrants in 2009, over 200 in 2010 and has already surpassed that number in 2011 with many more entrants expected to register.
