On 08/08/11 at approximately 12:10 p.m. the Seneca Falls Police Department arrested Steven J. Kirby, age 34, of 5 Montgomery Street, Seneca Falls, NY following an investigation into a hit and run accident that occurred on Ovid Street near Center Street in Seneca Falls.The incident occurred on the morning of 08/04/11 in which witnesses reported seeing a driver hit a street sign and then leave the scene of the accident without notifying police. Witnesses were able to get a plate number for the vehicle, which came back to Kirby’s address, and responded to Kirby’s address and observed damage to the vehicle.Kirby was interviewed and admitted to driving the vehicle, hitting the sign, and then leaving the scene. A check of his license showed that he was suspended with multiple suspensions on his license, which showed a different address than the one listed above. Kirby was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle in the 2nd Degree, Failed to Keep Right, Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Accident, and Failure to Notify DMV of a Change of Address. Kirby was arraigned in Seneca Falls Town Court and ROR’d for pre-trial release. Kirby is to re-appear in court on 09/14/11 at 9 a.m. to answer the charges.
