Seneca County Sheriff’s Office reports that on August 10, 2011 Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a personal injury motor vehicle accident on State Route 89 in the Town of Ovid involving a motor vehicle and a tractor. Upon arrival it was found that Kathleen Merrill age 72 of 150 Beech Hill Rd. Harpursville, NY was traveling southbound in the area of 7350 State Route 89 operating a 2009 Toyota Camry when a Ford 555E backhoe/ loader being operated by Benjamin Frey age 17 of 9046 Keady Rd. Lodi, NY began to enter the roadway from a driveway. Merrill’s vehicle struck the front left wheel of the backhoe. Merrill was transported by South Seneca Ambulance to Cayuga Medical Center for treatment of neck and chest pain. A passenger in her vehicle, Frederika Johnson age 63 of 148 Dilly Rd. Port Crane NY was also transported by South Seneca Ambulance to Cayuga Medical Center for treatment of chest pain. Frey was uninjured in the crash.
