Sheriff David Gould reports that the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office is investigating two residential burglaries both of which are believed to have occurred between 10:00am and Noon today. Both residences are located on Nauvoo Rd. in the Town of Mentz just a short distance outside the Village of Port Byron. Both residences were forcibly entered and assorted jewelry was stolen in both cases.Anyone with information in regard to suspicious persons or vehicles seen in that area is asked to contact Detectives at 253-1610.The Sheriff’s Office is asking the public to be vigilant and report suspicious vehicles parked along back roads and or strangers at their doors as it is a common method of operation for burglars to knock on a door in an attempt to verify whether or not a resident is home prior to forcing entry.
