Wednesday, July 27, 2011—The Red Cross is holding its annual lifeguard games competition at the Canandaigua YMCA this Friday to help promote water safety, lifeguard certification, and professional responder skills. Sponsored by the Ontario County Safety Council and the Canandaigua Lyons Club, the lifeguard games run from 4-7 p.m. and are free and open to the public.“Lifeguard games are a fun way to test and reinforce water safety and lifeguarding skills learned at the Red Cross,” said Taryn Windheim, Director of the West Ontario Office of the American Red Cross in Canandaigua. “The friendly competition makes the event really interesting and fun to watch!”Six teams will be competing in Friday’s games, representing the Canandaigua YMCA, Pal-Mac Central School, Kershaw Park, and Victor Parks & Recreation.Additional sponsors of food and refreshments include Wegmans Food Markets, Mark’s Pizzeria, Tim Horton’s, Case’s Convenient Mart, and Wal-Mart.
