The Seneca County Chamber of Commerce has announced that it will be hosting its annual Membership BBQ and Small Business of the Year Award event on Thursday, August 18, 2011. Held again at Knapp Winery & Restaurant, the event will take place from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. and will feature summer fare from the Chamber’s newest member, Aaron’s Smokey Bar B Que; as well as entertainment from The Casey McDonald Band.This year, six Chamber members were nominated for the Small Business of the Year Award. Nominees include: Auto Specialist Inc, Barrister’s B&B; The Downtown Deli; Jay Koopman Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning; Muranda Cheese Company; and the Seneca Falls Historical Society. The Small Business of the Year program was developed by the Chamber in 2007 to recognize and celebrate the impact that small businesses have on communities. Small businesses compose nearly 98 percent of businesses in New York State, accounting for more than half of the state’s private sector employment. “In addition to significant employment and tax base contributions, small businesses and their owners support efforts that make our area a better place to live, work and play,” stated Jeff Shipley, the Chamber’s Executive Director. “We are pleased to honor all of the nominees and are eager to announce this year’s official Small Business of the Year award winner at the Chamber’s upcoming BBQ.”Chamber and community members, friends, and families are all invited and encouraged to attend the event. Reservations are currently being taken, and are required no later than Friday, August 5, 2011.
