On July 16, 2011 at about 11:15 PM the Waterloo Police Department took a report of a loud explosion on North Road near the area of the SenecaCounty Fairgrounds. A witness to the incident described a dark colored pick up truck leaving the scene. Moments later, more reports of explosions were reported from the area of Mill Street. The Waterloo Police Department conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of East Williams Street and Chapel Street and made the following arrests:Arman Akbulut age 18 of 45 Maple Road East Setauket, NY 11733 for Criminal Mischief in the first degree, Criminal Possession of Fireworks and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.Justin J. Butera age 18 of 14 Bobcat Lane East Setauket, NY 11733 for Criminal Mischief in the first degree, Criminal Possession of Fireworks and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.Matthew E. Williams age 18 of 3 Scotch Pine Lane East Setauket, NY 11733 for Criminal Possession of Fireworks, Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana.It is alleged that the three were riding around the area setting off fireworks. Akbulut and Butera placed a firework inside a Village of Waterloo residents mailbox and ignited the firework causing damage to the mailbox. At the time of the traffic stop, fireworks were found inside the vehicle, marijuana was found and claimed by Williams and there was a 15 year old male present in the vehicle.All three were arraigned in the Village of Waterloo Court before Judge Mattoon. Butera and Akbulut were committed to the Seneca County Correctional Facility in lieu of $1000 cash bail or $2000 secured bond. Williams was released and all three are scheduled to re-appear on August 3, 2011 to answer the charges.
