Walter Russ to be sentenced to 30 years – FingerLakes1.com Archive

The Finger Lakes Times reports today that a Geneva Man who shot his ex-wife and another man in January will be sentenced Monday in Ontario County Court. Russ will be sentenced by county court Judge Craig Doran. As part of his plea deal, Russ waived his right to appeal. Russ admitted to shooting and stabbing his ex-wife on Jan. 22 and shooting another male victim in the stomach. Russ pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree assault and one count of aggravated criminal contempt, second degree criminal possession of a weapon and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Two counts of first-degree attempted murder were dropped as part of the deal. All the charges are felonies. Prosecutors say one reason the victims survived the incident was because Russ used a small caliber handgun. Russ will not be eligible for parole until serving at least 25 years of his sentence.
