Wayne County- A Galen man who stole a handgun earlier this year has been sentenced to 5 months in the Wayne County Jail. Robert Gill, 20, of Welch Road, was sentenced by County Court Judge Daniel Barrett Thursday after pleading guilty to second-degree grand larceny and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. In addition to the jail term, Gill was sentenced to five years probation and waived his right to appeal. Lyons police arrested Mr. Gill in April, nearly 3 months after the burglary was reported. Lyons Police Chief, Richard Bogan explained his officers investigated, developed leads and culminated in finding a picture of Gill holding what appeared to be the missing gun. After further investigation and the execution of a search warrant at the Gill residence, police recovered the gun along with some marijuana plants and some other drugs. In addition to praise for his officer’s efforts, Chief Bogan also credited the Clyde Police Department of providing information on the case.
