PY Police issue driveway sealing scam

Village of Penn Yan police are alerting residents to be aware of potential driveway sealing and home repair scams. The Finger Lakes Times reports that police are now investigating reports of a group going door to door in and around the area offering to seal driveways. The group gives one up front price then demand more money after completion of the job. Sometimes as much as double the initial asking price. Police said these types of scams may start with a knock on the door and an offer to seal with materials left over from a nearby “big job”. In many instances, the material used is substandard or even just motor oil. People are reminded to check references prior to any work. Any residents who feel they have been a victim of this scam should call the Penn Yan Police Dept. at 536-4426.
