The Finger Lakes Times has reported that the family of William “Cory” Jackson has hired an attorney who wants the investigation into Jackson’s death made public and hinted at a lawsuit against the city and its police department. At an impromptu press conference Monday evening at the Public Safety Building, Buffalo-area attorney Nelson Torre said he is representing Jackson’s estate and doing his own investigation into the May 20 shooting of Jackson by Geneva Police Department Sgt. Carmen Reale during a traffic stop on North Exchange Street. Jackson died of the gunshot wound to his head three days later at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, a day after his 34th birthday. Last week, a county grand jury clearedReale of wrongdoing following an investigationby the Ontario County Sheriff’s Department. Torre said he will ask the grand jury, based on community concern, to make the report public. Mr. Torre also said “We are in the process ofnotifying the city of the potential claims that existbased upon the loss of life caused by the fatal policeshooting”
