On Monday afternoon, at 12:14 pm, Seneca County Sheriff’s Investigators arrested and charged Nancy N. Knight, age 54, of 3794 Gusty Lane, Seneca Falls, New York with Grand Larceny in the Third Degree and Official Misconduct. Knight is the Town of Fayette Tax Collector, Clerk and Registrar.The charges stem from an investigation that began on Friday, 07/08/2011. Fayette Town Supervisor Cindy Garlick- Lorenzetti reported to Sheriff’s Department Officials that there was suspicious activity by Knight regarding tax funds. The Sheriff’s Office responded immediately to the Town of Fayette Offices and began an investigation. It was discovered that Knight allegedly stole at least $3,100.00 in cash from tax payments made to the Town of Fayette. Knight cooperated with the investigation.Knight was arraigned in the Town of Waterloo Court and was released to re-appear on August 9th at 2:00 PM. The sheriff’s office investigation is continuing.
