The Pirates of the Erie Canal require rascally racers for three thrilling events during Palmyra Pirate Weekend, on Saturday, August 6, 2011 in Palmyra, NY.First, run, jog or walk the inaugural Jolly Roger 5K, winding through the Town and Village of Palmyra. Your participation will help raise vital funds for the award-winning and globe-trotting Palmyra-Macedon High School Select Choir.Next, the fourth running of the Pillage ‘N the Village streaks straight through the heart of historic Palmyra’s 19th century Main Street business district, with five-person crews competing head-to-head against other running raiders and scurrying scallywags for a cash prize and other awards.Pirates of all rank–the ranker the better–are welcome to enlist, with local and regional service and community organizations, and businesses expected to round out the racing field. The Ontario Fire Department has absconded with top honors for each of the race’s first three years. Can you and your bawdy band of buccaneers knock them out of their comfortable crow’s nest?Last, book your berth for the Inkredible Kanal Korsair Kayak Kontest, hosted by Fuzzy Guppies, providing human powered watercraft, including the Aqua Ball (think human hamster ball!) all day at the Port of Palmyra Marina.Race applications, entry fees, specifications, and all other information are available online now at www.eriecanalpirates.comAbout Palmyra Pirate Weekend. Palmyra Pirate Weekend is a family-friendly festival intended to showcase Palmyra, New York, the Queen of Canal Towns. The visit of the Lois McClure to the Port of Palmyra Marina in August, 2007 was the first wind in the sails for Palmyra Pirate Weekend, yet this grassroots event has grown by the hard work of some creative and talented people who have long recognized Palmyra as the perfect place to live, work, and play.
