Two cars involved in crash on 96A in Waterloo

The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office reports that on June 22nd 2011 at 8:41pm Sheriff’s Deputiesinvestigated a personal injury motor vehicle accident involving two vehicles on State Route 96A in the Town of Waterloo.The accident occurred when Ann E. Scharett age 69 of 1736 Rt 336 Waterloo, NY was traveling southbound on State Route 96A from the intersection of State Route 5. Allegedly Scharett swerved because she believed she was in danger of striking a vehicle entering the highway traveling on the merge ramp from the eastbound lane of State Route 5. Scharett’s vehicle struck the median guard rail and then traveled back across both southbound lanes down an embankment and into a wooded area. The second vehicle involved was a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee which was operated by Devon M. Gramoske age 19 of 24 Carlton Rd. Waterloo, NY.Gramoske was operating the vehicle attempting to enter the highway from the merge ramp. Gramoske reports that she was trying to avoid Scharett’s vehicle at which time she struck the median/ guard rail, the two vehicles involved never struck each other. Scharett was transported by North Seneca Ambulance to Geneva General Hospital for a check over and treatment of neck pain, Gramoske was uninjured in the accident. Deputies had the southbound lanes of the highway shut down for approximately an hour while the incident was handled. Deputies were also assisted at the scene by the Border City Fire Department.
