Geneva announces valedictorian & salutatorian

Emma L. Meteyer is the valedictorian of Geneva High School¹s Class of 2011. She is the daughter of Patricia and Richard Meteyer of Geneva. Meteyer plans to attend the State University of New York, College of Environmental Science and Forestry in the fall and major in wildlife science. The salutatorian of the Class of 2011 is Linna Li, daughter of Jun-Hui Ren and Rong Li of Geneva. She has not yet decided where to go to college next fall, but will attend Lehigh University, Stony Brook University or the University of Michigan. Meteyer and Li are among nearly 180 students in the Geneva High School Class of 2011 who are to receive their diplomas on Friday, June 24, at the Smith Opera House in downtown Geneva. At Geneva High, Meteyer has been vice president of the National Honor Society, a member of the Interact Club and president of the high school band. She received the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award, the GHS Faculty Award, the Mary E. Luckern Scholarship, Geneva Center of Concern Scholarship, Griswold Telephone Scholarship, Harriet Goodsell Memorial Scholarship, the College of Environmental Science and Forestry Presidential Merit Award, Sankofa Ujima Geneva Scholarship and Casella Waste Management Scholarship. She was on the varsity swim team during her freshman and sophomore years at Geneva High, and volunteered as a teaching aide at St. Stephen¹s Religious Education classes during her junior and senior years. She worked as a Scotsman Press Pennysaver Carrier from 2005 to 2008 and as a page at the Geneva Public Library from 2008 to the present. Li has been director of recruitment for the high school’s Math League, secretary of the Science Club, president of the Art Club and a member of the Interact Club and Envirothon. She is a member of the National Honor Society, the Interact Club and has been on the Principal¹s List. Li has received the American Chemical Society Award, the Geneva High School Faculty Award, Veterans of Foreign Wars Voice of Democracy and the Ann and Bud Dorn Memorial Scholarship. She was on the Cross Country team in her freshman, sophomore and junior years. Li has been a summer volunteer at Geneva General Hospital, participated in the Science Club¹s lake cleanup and has been an ARC volunteer. She also has been working at Old Navy.
