Another successful Waterfront Festival

Well the weather finally was superb for the Watkins Glen Waterfront Festival! Friday evening’s event, Harbor Lights did include some showers, but the skies cleared as the sun set and the lights began to play across the harbor waters. Mike Morse of Pro Audio and his crew provided a beautiful showcase for the tranquility of the Seneca Harbor Park Marina. Lighting playing upon the sails of True Love, Malabar VII, the Pier House was encircled in sparkly white lights as hundreds of tiny lights flickered on the break wall outlining the harbor. Inside the Marina many of the sail boats masts were edged with matching lights. Huge thanks to our Harbor Lights sponsor, The Watkins Glen Harbor Hotel, supported by Seneca Harbor Station, Seneca Lake Wine Trail, WiNGZ 104.9 and Village Marina Bar & Grill. Mike and his Crew from Pro Audio provided a beautiful show with huge support from Village of Watkins Glen Electric Department and Schuyler County Buildings and Grounds. The sun came out Saturday morning and never left us…first time in many years we have not endured a rain event of some sort. The Concourse de Cardboard was well attended. Voting for most popular boat was very popular. $767 dollars was raised for JDRF. Over 90 boats registered for this year’s event. Though a large percentage of the boats finished the event, not all of those that crossed the finish line looked anything like what they did at the launch. While it takes a Village and a County to put this event on…there is a core group of hardy volunteers who are responsible for putting this event year after year! You know who you are…please know that as always, it was a job well done. Last. but never least. we thank the boat builders, the captains and crews! The real stars of the event…!You come in all shapes and sizes and from all backgrounds…yet you all gather on a Saturday in June, and give those of us who line the harbor a fantastic show…an afternoon of laughter…and a look at true determination. From all of us, we salute you the 2011 Class of Cardboard Sailors of Seneca Harbor Park Marina!Caryl Sutterby, Event Chair
