Marissa Garcia from United Way spoke at Wednesday night’s Seneac Falls Business Association meeting about the community garden which is being established along the canal behind Ferrara Lumber in Seneca Falls.. She also discussed the the local food shortage and increase in food pantry use. They are teaching people how to grow, harvest and can food.All proceeds from the garden will go to the Seneca County House of Concern.The community garden currently has nine large raised beds. Ferrara Lumber, Seneca Coutny Cornell Cooperative Extension, Women’s Interfaith Institute, Zuzu’s Cafe and Lowes are some of the major contributors.They need volunteers to sustain the garden and will have a presence on Fall Street during the sidewalk festival this Saturday to bring awareness to the community.They are also in need of a fence along with volunteers to help with watering and yield.The House of Concern is expanding into the house adjacent to the current church facility on State Street in Seneca Falls and with offices in the house they are hopeful that they will be able to provide instructional classes to people regarding what to do with the food once it is harvested; i.e., cooking it, canning, etc.
