Newarkfest coming to Newark on June 10-12

Amongst the good food and fun that you will find at Newarkfest, the American Red Cross will have several activities going on to raise funds for local disaster relief. The 6th Annual Market Alternatives Run for the Red 5K Event will take place on June 11th at Central Park. Registration will begin at 8am and the race will start at 9am. The cost is $12. for pre-registrants and $15. if you sign up on the day of the run/walk. T-shirts will be given to the first 150 participants, there are water stations throughout the course, and refreshments will be offered before and after the event. The overall Male and Female winners will receive a cash prize of $50. and a gold metal during the 10am awards ceremony at the Central Park Gazebo. Door prizes, acknowledgements and awards for the first three finishers of each of the 12 age divisions will also be given at the ceremony. This event will take you on an adventure through Newark. We welcome both runners and walkers to participate in this event and typically have a good mix of both.Our Raffle’n for Disaster Relief event will be held for the second year in a row. The prizes are AMAZING this year. The 1st prize is a John Deere D100 Riding Lawn Mower donated by Lakeland Equipment. Our 2nd prize is 2 Airline Tickets donated by JetBlue Airways. Then, the 3rd prize is an Outdoor Heated Table Lamp donated by Heritage Fireplace. All of these items will be on display in our Newarkfest booths, Friday 6/10 through the drawing at 12noon on Sunday 6/12. We’re very grateful for the booths that were donated by the Lions National Bank Newark Branch and V. Bruce Chambers Attorney at Law of Newark. The tickets are only $5.00 this year so make sure to stop by Newarkfest to purchase a chance to win one of our 3 great prizes. If you aren’t able to make it to the festival, the tickets are available at the Wayne County Chapter.“The Red Cross has responded to the needs of over two-hundred people affected by disasters with-in the past year and unfortunately that number continues to grow,” said Jim Love, Chapter Executive Director. “Funds raised through events like this allow us to always be there when disaster strikes.”
