The American Red Cross Blood Services, New York-Penn Region today announced a blood drive will be held on Thursday, June 16 from 11:30 am – 5:30 pm at the Auburn United Methodist Church on 99 South Street in Auburn. The Red Cross hopes to strengthen the blood supply as summer approaches. All blood types are needed.All blood donors who present to give blood at this and other Red Cross blood drives in the region during June will receive a Best Buy coupon redeemable from June 15 – July 15, 2011. (Purchase is required and coupons are not redeemable for cash).Blood donors are always needed, as each donation has the potential to save up to three lives. Red blood cells help people with severe trauma injuries and chronic anemia. Platelets benefit cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, and plasma helps burn victims and patients with critical diseases. To schedule an appointment to donate blood, call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767). Individuals who are at least 17 years of age (16 with parental permission New York and Pennsylvania), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements. Identification is required at the time of donation.
