Join Merry-Go-Round Youth Theatre this summer for a magic carpet ride through ancient Arabia as we follow the exciting escapades of Aladdin, one of literature’s boldest young heroes. >From the same team of professionals that have been bringing arts opportunities to Central New York Schools for over fifty years, Aladdin will tour parks, churches, playgrounds and recreation centers from July 8-August 6, 2011.After finding a magic lamp, our young adventurer soars through the skies and travels through secret caves with a cast of characters that includes the Genie of the Ring, the Genie of the Lamp, a beautiful princess, and an evil magician. This new telling of a classic tale delights while teaching about the gifts of true friendship. Michelle Foytek, a former Merry-Go-Round actor currently living and working in New York City, returns to direct a cast of MGR’s most seasoned actors. The title role will be played by Michael Joseph Antico, one of our most elastic character actors and a four year veteran. Joining him will be fellow veterans Carl Krickmire as an evil magician after the heart of the beautiful Princess Jena, played by Morgan Price. Michael Brennan rounds out the cast in his portrayal of the genie. These talented actors will make their way through a world of props and puppets entirely re-imagined by creative master James Caito, whose visual treats are sure to delight audience members of all ages.A year-round repertory company headed by Producing Director Ed Sayles and Associate Producer Lisa Myers, Merry-Go-Round Youth Theatre tours state wide with curriculum-based theatre performances and a workshop series for youth during the school year and a family oriented performance during the summer.Sponsored by Seneca Falls Savings Bank and Wegmans, with support from the Cayuga County Youth Bureau and the Auburn Recreation Department, a number of free public performances are available throughout the city of Auburn and its surrounding areas during the months of July and August. For more information about when and where Aladdin will be in your area or to book a show for your community, please contact Stephanie Figer, Educational Theatre Coordinator at (315) 255-1305 x 26 or visit our website, www.merry-go-round.com.
