Waterloo Memorial Day Car Show Grows

Just when you think they can’t find a place for one more car, the organizers say Celebrate Commemorate’s car show will come back bigger than ever. This year a third row of cars will line Main Street beginning at 9 a.m. on Sunday morning, May 29. The 12th annual Wheels on Main Street promises to be outstanding, with every kind of motorized vehicle from farm tractors to race cars to lovingly restored classic and antique cars on display. The event is being coordinated by Lou and Alice LeBrun, Bob and Bev Good and Gary and Donna Stengle. This year, in addition to the Celebrate Commemorate chicken barbecue, local merchants will have food for sale outside some of their shops.Cars may be pre-register online by visiting www.waterloony.com before May 20. Registrations also may be made between 9 and 10 a.m. the day of the show at the booth in front of the police department, 41 West Main St. All registrants will receive a commemorative dash plaque. The 12th annual Celebrate Commemorate event will be held May 27-30 in Waterloo, the Birthplace of Memorial Day. It will include prayer services, and the official Memorial Day parade, at 6 pm coordinated by the American Legion.LIONS CLUB HOSTS ANNUAL WOODIE REUNIONThe Waterloo Lions Club and the Woodies Northeastern Chapter will host the annual Woodie reunion, a gathering of the wooden-bodied cars manufactured in Waterloo from 1939 to 1957. Chair Gary Valerio said Woodies will participate in the Celebrate parade on Saturday at 11 a.m. and enjoy a picnic lunch boat tour and an evening banquet at Emile’s Restaurant.
