Celebrate Commemorate’s 12th annual parade will honor the brave men of World War II who fought for freedom. Several organizations have been contacted to create floats that will honor WWII veterans still living in Waterloo.The committee would like to hear from the families of World War II veterans who would like to participate in the parade, which will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 28.“We don’t want to leave anyone out,” said parade coordinator Kaaren Gerlach. “We already know of four WWII veterans.” She asked that families contact her at 315-539-2927 or 315-651-7726. “These men and women did so much to preserve our freedom. The flame that they kept is still burning today in the Middle East,” said parade coordinator Doris Wolf. “They deserve our respect and thanks.”The 12th annual Celebrate Commemorate event will be held May 27-30 in Waterloo, the Birthplace of Memorial Day. For more information about the events, go to www.waterloony.com.The 145th consecutive commemoration of Memorial Day will be on Monday, May 30. It will include prayer services, and the official Memorial Day parade, at 6 pm coordinated by the American Legion.
