Christopher McNinch, a local Ameriprise financial advisor, is joining forces with the American Red Cross to collect toiletries and other basic necessities for Yates County residents in need. Throughout March, McNinch will accept donated items for both the Yates County Red Cross disaster relief effort and the Needs ‘n’ Things community toiletries pantry. Donated items can be dropped off Monday through Thursday between 9am-noon and 1–5pm at 130 Main Street, Penn Yan. “Ameriprise Financial is dedicated to supporting organizations that share our goal of improving lives and building strong communities,” explained McNinch. “I’m proud to play a role in supporting this worthwhile cause and I challenge our local community to respond with generous enthusiasm.” The Needs ‘n’ Things panty supplies local residents with toiletries and other necessities not covered by government assistance programs or at the Food Bank. Items most crucially needed include: dish soap, laundry soap, diapers (size 3 and up), baby wipes, toilet paper, paper towels, facial tissues, deodorant, razors and shaving cream. The pantry is unable to accept food or used items such as clothing, household appliances, or toys. The drive is scheduled for March, to coincide with Red Cross month. “Of course, the Red Cross supports the community throughout the year, 24/7,” said Yates County Red Cross Executive Director Carol Oswald. “Red Cross Month just brings attention to the ongoing need for donations.” “We feel it is important to take care of an organization that takes care of us during our must vulnerable times,” added McNinch, who also plans to match donated goods with a monetary contribution to the organization.
