Seneca County Sheriff’s Deputies responded with the Ovid Fire Department to 7166 Prospect Street in the Village of Ovid for the report of a structure fire. Tenant, Elizabeth Clingerman, age 55, of the same address was at home the time the fire broke out. Clingerman evacuated the residence and was uninjured. The fire was brought under control by firefighters from Ovid, Lodi and Interlaken Fire Departments in about 15 minutes. The home, owned by Martin J. Brewer, age 48, of 1929 County Road 139 Ovid was uninsured. The Seneca County Fire Investigation Team (SCFIT) was called out to determine the cause. The SCFIT found the cause to be a shorted out electrical outlet in the bedroom of the residence. South Seneca Ambulance and Red Cross also responded to the scene.
