SFPD arrests level 3 sex offender

On December 6th 2010 at approx. 10:37 AM Seneca Falls Police arrested James P. Steiner Jr., age 37 from 8369 Lakeview Street Interlaken, NY under the New York State Corrections Law for Failure to Register a New Address Within Ten Days of Moving a class E Felony. James P. Steiner Jr. is a registered New York State Level 3 Sex Offender. Steiner has many obligation he must follow being a reigistered level 3 sex offender, one of which to complete a change of address with a law enforcement agency within ten days of moving from one address to another. Steiner has been registering with the New York State Sex Offender Registry since October 31st 2006. On May 5th, 2004 James P. Steiner was convicted in Ontario County Court of Rape 3rd; Attempted Rape 3rd; and Sexual Abuse classifying him as a Sex Offender. At the beginning of November 2010 the Seneca Falls Police was advised by the Landlord at the Franklin Hotel located at 55 West Bayard Street, where Steiner was living, and a New York State Parol Officer, who was working in the building on another unrelated subject, that it appeared James P. Steiner Jr. had moved out of his room. The Seneca Falls Police began their investigation into this matter and found out that James P. Steiner Jr. moved out of 55 West Bayard Street Room#11 Seneca Falls on or before November 1st, 2010. James P. Steiner was interviewed by Police and denied moving out of the room until November 10th, 2010. Shorty after being interviewed, Steiner completed a change of address form with the Seneca County Sheriffs Department claiming that his new address was 8369 Lakeview Street Interlaken, NY. Upon completion of this investigation the Seneca Falls Police Department attempted to locate Steiner. On December 6th, 2010 James P. Steiner Jr. was witnessed by a Seneca Falls Police Officer driving his vehicle. Steiner was stopped by this Officer and arrested. Steiner was arraigned on December 6th, 2010 in the Seneca Falls Town Court in front of the Honorable Judge Mahoney and committed to the Seneca County Correctional Facility in lieu of $2,500.00 cash or $5,000.00 Secured Bond. A Felony Hearing was set for December 9th, 2010 at 9:30 AM. On December 9th, 2010 Steiner arrived from the Seneca County Correctional Facility with his attorney Mr. James Hickey present. The Defence waived the Felony Hearing and requested the bail be dropped. It was agreed upon by the Defense council, the Assistant District Attorney, and Judge Mahoney to place James P. Steiner Jr. on house arrest until further court proceedings.
