Substitute positions for classroom teachers, teaching assistants, monitors and RN or LPN school nurses are especially needed this school year throughout the Wayne-Finger Lakes Region. School districts reporting these specific needs include Newark, Sodus, North Rose-Wolcott, Clyde-Savannah and Canandaigua. As a substitute, you choose the school districts where you want to work and your availability. The Substitute Teacher Registry of Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES is offering training for prospective substitutes (of any type) who wish to work in any of the schools in Wayne, Ontario, Yates or Seneca Counties. This two-day, 10-hour training covers information on school expectations, classroom procedures, behavior management, lesson plans and more. Application and clearance requirements are also covered. Substitute applications for many school districts are made available on the second day of training. Participants in the training will receive a certificate of completion. Attendance does not guarantee a job, but may increase your confidence/chances in obtaining substitute work. Qualifications for substitutes vary across the region from a high school diploma to college credit and/or degree (dependent on the type of substitute position sought). The next substitute training session will be offered October 26 and 27, 2010 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the W-FL BOCES Regional Support Center in Newark, New York. The fee is $25 and covers all materials, refreshments, and lunch. To register, call 1-800-527-1765, or 315-332-7463. For program specific information, contact Melissa Stuart at mstuart@wflboces.org or 315-332-7314.
