Seneca County District Attorney Barry Porsch clarified his remarks quoted in a Finger Lakes Times Article of September 30th.Porsch stated that he misspoke in comments to Finger Lakes Time Reporter David Shaw when he implied that he had discharged District Attorney’s Office employees in an effort to finance a criminal investigation which the County Board of Supervisors refused to fund.“I had concerns over the willingness and ability of the Board to fund this investigation, but they did not refuse funding.” Porsch said. “I had plans to make changes in the Office that had been formulated before the meeting on the funding issue and was aware that those plans would make funds available through our current budget. The Board was presented with these plans simultaneously with the request to proceed with the investigation and the Board expressed their approval, offering to cover additional expenses not covered under our budget.”“Staff changes in my office over the past year took place due to entirely separate considerations and although they result, in part in my ability to provide funding for this investigation, that was by no means the purpose for these changes”, Porsch said.“I am sorry if my remarks caused any misunderstanding.”
