All aboard! The Yates County Chapter of the American Red Cross is holding a two hour boat cruise Saturday, September 11, 1 pm – 3 pm on beautiful Keuka Lake. In honor of the events of 911 and in Support of the Armed Forces Emergency Services program and other Red Cross Disaster Services, Cruising for a Cause is open to the public for a minimum of a $20 donation. Seats are still available!“Volunteers and staff respond to aid victims of local disasters like house fires, floods and other devastating emergencies. We provide services of food, clothing and shelter to help people get back on their feet,” said Carol Oswald, Chapter Executive of the Yates County Red Cross. “In addition, the Red Cross also provides assistance to the military and their families and helps families stay connected during emergencies. We rely on generous donations from the community to be able to respond and provide our services.” Oswald said.The 20 boats on the tour will cruise down the South side past Keuka College and back on the North side to the Boat Launch. Each guest will receive a booklet complete with historic information about Keuka Lake and the Red Cross along with refreshments.In times of crisis, the American Red Cross is there for the men and women of the United States Armed Forces and their families. From communicating messages during emergencies to outreach to the National Guard and reserves, to veterans assistance and military hospital visits, the Red Cross provides support and services. The Finger Lakes NY Region of the American Red Cross is also a partner of Help Base Greater Rochester www.HelpBaseGreaterRochester.org, a resource for veterans, service members and their families.This is a unique event and will be a site to see 20 boats parading down Keuka Lake with American Red Cross flags proudly flying from the sterns.
