Seneca County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to 5226 E. Lake Road, Romulus, N.Y. for the report of a working structure fire. The homeowner, Susan Wertman, contacted 911 after she discovered a downed power line strung over the roof of her residence. While awaiting the fire department the power line began to arch and caught fire to an outlet on the south side of the residence along with a nearby tree. A television set plugged in to the outlet began to smoke heavily. Varick Fire Department arrived on scene and extinguished the flames from the nearby tree along with the south side of the residence. The home is insured. Varick Fire was assisted at the scene by Fayette and Romulus Fire Departments. The damage is estimated to be around $2000.00. No one was injured.
