State Senator Mike Nozzolio today announced that the New York State Senate has enacted his legislation to designate a portion of state route 96A, in Seneca County, as the “Sampson Veterans Memorial Highway”. Senator Nozzolio was the prime sponsor of the legislation (S.5743-B) in the New York State Senate which passed unanimously.“The adoption of this important legislation will serve as a lasting tribute to the brave veterans who gave so much for our country,” said Senator Nozzolio. “I firmly believe we have no greater obligation than to make sure the sacrifices of our brave veterans are never forgotten and the Sampson Veterans Memorial Highway will do just that.”The Sampson Veterans Memorial Highway will constitute Route 96A, from State Route 5 and United States Route 20 in the town of Waterloo, Seneca County, continuing in a southerly direction to its intersection with state route 414 in the village of Ovid. Along Route 96A lies the Sampson Air Force and Naval Base, which now serves as the site of the Sampson Veterans Cemetery. The Sampson Memorial Naval Museum and Air Force Museum are also located at the site.“Route 96A serves as the principal point of access to each of these community assets,” said Senator Nozzolio. “The “Sampson Veterans MemorialHighway” will serve to further memorialize the efforts of our county’s service men and women.”
