Palmyra, NY – July 8, 2010 The pen, or rather, the brush, will prove mightier than the sword as pirate painters descend on Palmyra, New York’s historic 19th century Main Street business district on Saturday, July 31, 2010. The results of their work will create a one-of-a-kind, public art gallery that will remain on display in shop and business windows for the week leading up to, and throughout the fourth annual Palmyra Pirate Weekend, August 6-8.Adventuresome artists of all ages (little ones can invite an adult to create with them!), are invited to join the fun and compete for a $50 top prize in each of four distinct age brackets, and the overall Best-in-Show Grand Champion’s Trophy. Prizes will be awarded and winners will be acknowledged in a special ceremony on Saturday, August 7.Registered rapscallions must complete their paintings between 9am and 1pm on Saturday, July 31. Paints and “canvas” (poster board 22”x28”) will be provided; painters should bring their own brushes, other materials and imagination.Complete contest details, including fees and entry forms are available online at www.eriecanalpirates.com, at the Palmyra Village Hall 315-597-4849, Palmyra Town Hall 315-597-5521or call Pirate Princezz Irene at 315-597-0011 for details. Painters are asked to register on or before July 30, 2010.
