Fatal Car Bus Motor Vehicle Accident

Sheriff David Gould reports that the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal motor vehicle accident which occurred this date at about 2:47 pm on State Route 34 in the Town of Fleming just south of Glanville Road.Initial investigation indicates a 1997 Chevy operated north by Robert Lindgren, 61, of Elmira New York crossed the center line of State Route 34 striking a bus operated by Seneca Cayuga ARC and occupied by a driver, an aid and 13 clients. One of the clients, Betty Terpening, 73, of Moravia New York was killed in the accident.In addition, three patients were air lifted to University Hospital and twelve patients were transported by ambulance to Auburn Memorial Hospital. This involved a total of two helicopters and eight ambulances.The accident was investigated by members of the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office, Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Team, the New York State Police, the Cayuga County District Attorney’s Office and the Cayuga County Corner’s Office.Aiding at the scene were Fleming Fire Department Station One, Fleming Fire Department Station Two, Owasco Fire Department Station One, Owasco Fire Department Station Two, Auburn Fire Department, Auburn City Ambulance, Auburn Fire Department HAZMAT, Scipio Fire Department, Aurelius Fire Department, Throop Fire Department, Union Springs Fire Department, Southern Cayuga Ambulance, Rural Metro Ambulance, Cayuga County Emergency Management Office and Mercy Flight.As standby, Four Town Ambulance, Saves Ambulance, Port Byron Ambulance and Red Jacket Fire Department were moved up to their stations or adjoining stations.
