“I used to hate multiplication but now I love it!” commented a second-grade boy recently. All thanks to a new program at South Seneca Elementary entitled “Math and Movement”. Founder, Suzy Koontz brought this program to second grade last fall and thanks to a Ujeni grant, came back in the spring to introduce new methods of instruction. Recently a ‘Multiplication Marathon’ was held and 13,876 problems were solved by second graders! Suzy Koontz commented, “what is amazing about observing the children is that they are engaged, they sit quietly and focus trying to solve as many problems as time permits and they beg to take problems home to keep solving more.” A great improvement in multiplication skills has been measured since beginning this program in the fall.
