Tops Friendly Markets, a leading full-service grocery retailer in upstate New York and northern Pennsylvania, celebrated today with the local community the official grand-re-opening under the Tops brand banner of the former P& C store at 1963 Kingdom Plaza in Waterloo, NY. The P&C store was part of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court-approved acquisition of a majority of Penn Traffic’s assets by Tops that was completed on January 29, 2010. The name change of the store to Tops Friendly Markets was included in a rebranding effort announced in early May in which former stores owned by Penn Traffic – Quality Markets, P&C and BiLo — would be changed to Tops by the end of 2010. Ceremonies featured the participation of community leaders and the announcement of capital improvements planned for each store as part of an overall two-year $90 million company-wide capital investment program. Donations were made on behalf of Tops to various local charities through the company’s “Living Here. Giving Here” community partnership program. In addition to enjoying a wider variety and selection of national and corporate brand products, Frank Curci, Tops’ president and CEO, announced at the ceremony that store customers will also see a more modern store by the end of 2010 once renovations throughout the entire store take place. “The entire Tops team has worked very hard to ensure that our Seneca Falls store customers will have a more enjoyable shopping experience as they see the many changes in the setting, amenities, friendly service and promotional grocery items that our neighborhood store will offer,” said Frank Curci,Tops’ president and CEO. “And we want to be active members of the local community.”Among the changes taking place at the Seneca Falls store will be exterior and interior remodeling, including new signage, addition of a Carry-Out-Café area and bulk foods department, upgraded floral, produce, meat and frozen food cases, a new healthy, natural and organic department and the addition of Tim Hortons coffee self serve kiosk.
