West Point’s First Female General to Speak at NYCC

Brigadier General (retired) Rebecca Halstead, MS, is the first female graduate from the United States Military Academy at West Point to attain the ranking of General Officer, will be in Seneca Falls on Saturday, July 17. She will kick off New York Chiropractic College’s homecoming weekend as the event’s keynote speaker.Highly decorated, General Halstead was awarded the Legion of Merit Medal, Air Assault Badge, and celebrated by the 2007 National Women’s History Project (Generations of Women Moving History Forward.) Halstead served 27 years with the U.S. Army, completing stints in Iraq and Afghanistan, and was brigade commander in the 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum, N.Y., when terrorists attacked the United Stated on September 11, 2001. In 2004 the Halstead was promoted to brigadier general, retiring at that rank in 2008. Culminating her career as commanding general of the Army’s Ordnance Center and Schools, she conducted leadership and institutional training for 100,000 members of the Ordnance Corps and headed two major staff and faculty organizations numbering over 5,000 professional military and civilian educators. Halstead’s remarks will take place at 8:30 AM on the NYCC campus (Academic 3, room 110), and should last about one hour. She will be available for comment afterward.
