Earthquake Rattles Finger Lakes, Northeast US

A minor earthquake struck north of Ottawa, Canada on Wednesday afternoon, rattling buildings as far away as Vermont, Albany, Michigan and New York City. There are no reports of any serious damage.In the Finger Lakes, local residents who felt the quake were communicating their experiences on Facebook, Twitter and the FingerLakes1,con Online Community Forums.According to Geophysicists with the United State Geological Survey, it was all the work of an earthquake that originated in the Ontario-Quebec Border Region of Canada around 1:41 p.m.. There was also a second earthquake indicated in the Ottawa River Valley just about ten minutes.The USGS says that the earthquake was of a 5.5 magnitude, and they were unaware of just how far-reaching the effects were.
