Pack your picnic basket, grab your lawn chair, and head up East Hill on Friday, July 2, for an evening of sweet and sultry swing with Diana Leigh and Crazy Rhythm. Sponsored by Cornell University’s School of Continuing Education and Summer Sessions, this free concert begins at 7:00 p.m. on the Cornell Arts Quad (and will relocate to Uris Auditorium if heavy rain is forecast).Born in Manhattan to a jazz trumpeter and a classical French horn player, Diana grew up in the musical hotbed of Woodstock, New York. Since moving to Ithaca in the late 1980s, Diana has sung with numerous swing, jazz, and blues bands, including The Little Big Band, The Blue Blazers, Sugar Moon, The Riveters, and The UnderTones. For over a decade, Diana and her dance band Crazy Rhythm have delighted audiences in Baltimore, Philadelphia, Boston, Hartford, and Washington, DC, as well as all over New York State. The band includes Neal Massa on keyboards, Brian Earle on clarinet and saxophone, Bernie Upson on bass, and Alexander Micucci on drums.Cornell’s free summer events series includes Friday night concerts on the Arts Quad, Tuesday night concerts and events at the Schwartz Center for the Performing Arts, and Wednesday night lectures at the Statler.
